Good news
"Ryan Farquhar is to make a sensational return to road racing, two years after announcing that he was quitting the sport, following the tragic circumstances , where his uncle, Trevor Ferguson was killed while competing in the Manx Grand Prix.
Ryan will compete in next years Isle of Man TT races in the Supetwin race, a class, that he has not only excelled in ,but has worked hard to develop the class into what it is to day.
The comeback story doesn’t stop with Ryan, Friend and arch rival on many occasions over the years, now living in Cyprus, Keith Amor will ALSO return to next years Isle of Man TT races, AND will be on board one of Ryans all conquering ER6 Kawasakis!
This announcement , of Two of the top road racers making a return to the gruelling Mountain Circuit, is indeed a major coup for the TT organizers.
Speaking to Ryan a few weeks ago, when he invited me over for a chat, The Dungannon man told me , he isn’t making a full scale return to racing, this offer has come from the TT organizers, at the minute I haven’t considered anything else!.
“This year, I ran quite a few bikes, and riders, and if truth be told, it was a nightmare!. When I quit racing, one of my aims, was to spend more time with my Family, but with the workload of looking after all the bikes, riders, the pressure from some Sponsors, I actually ended up, seeing less of my Family!.”
Up until a few weeks ago, it was a mere formality that Ryan, would again be supporting his protégé, Jamie Hamilton, under the KMR banner for another season or road racing, however, Jamie, received another offer, and as Ryan stated many times, Due to the financial restraint, He could only take Jamie so far, and would not stand in his way, if he were to receive a better offer.
After the NEC show, in Birmingham, Jamie broke the news to Ryan, that he was moving to another team, This left Ryan with a void to fill. When Jamie broke the news, It got Ryan thinking, he had , had enough of running his own team, He probably always had a hankering to ride the mountain circuit again, so a few phone calls later, a deal was thrashed out, and both Ryan and Keith will now compete at the 2014 IOM TT Road races.
For the 2014 IOM TT, Ryan will be running under the SGS Racing banner, his bike will carry almost the same livery as that of Jeremey McWilliams at Armoy this year, but incorporating, Ryans now familiar flourscent orange in the colour scheme.
Will Ryan make a full scale return to the Irish road race scene? Personally speaking, I don’t think so!, I think Ryan has had his time of running to all events and racing in various classes etc, My take on this return, is, Yes, he will do the TT, maybe the North West, if a financially viable package can be agreed!, I know of Ryans love for the Mountain circuit, and to return to The Island on the bike he enjoys riding the most, I think , for the first time in a long time, Ryan may actually enjoy his racing again.
