New TT Course licence introduced for riders
A decision has been taken by the Road Race Drag and Sprint Committee to implement stricter Licence controls for competitors wishing to enter the TT and Manx GP in 2006 and beyond.
This decision was made following meetings between the Organisers of the TT and the Road Race Drag and Sprint Committee as part of a general review of safety on the TT Mountain Course.
Competitors entering the TT or the Manx GP are now required to hold a “ TT Course Licence” before entering the event. The criteria are:
1. From 1st January 2006 a TT Circuit Licence (price £25 in addition to any other Licence Fee) issued by the ACU Road Race Department – Rugby is required for all competitors of any Nationality wishing to take part in any event to be held on the TT Mountain Circuit,
2. To qualify for such a Licence all ACU, MCUI or SACU Licence Holders (including Passengers) must hold at least a National Road Race Licence and have held the same for at least 12 months prior to the closing date for Entries.
3. Competitors other than ACU, MCUI and SACU Licence Holders must have held an FIM International Non-Championship Licence for at least one year prior to the closing date for Entries.
4. For the 2006 TT all riders must have competed satisfactorily in at least three race meetings between the 1st July 2005 and 31st March 2006 (supporting records to be produced with the Licence Application)
5. For the 2006 Manx GP all riders must have competed satisfactorily in at least three meetings between the 1st October 2005 and 30th April 2006 (supporting records to be produce with Licence Application)
6. In all cases evidence of satisfactory medical fitness must be produced as required. Additionally all riders over the age of fifty years must produce a Medical Report from their own GP.
7. For 2007 the minimum number of qualifying events will be increased to 6 during a similar qualifying period.
After consideration of applications by the ACU Road Race Department the “TT Course Licence” will be issued by the ACU and will be required by all competitors regardless of nationality. Competitors must be in possession of a “TT Course Licence” before their entry can be accepted by the Race Organisers. The TT Licence Application Form will be issued as part of the Supplementary Regulations for the event concerned.
New licence requirements for the Manx GP will now make it impossible for many riders to qualify for entry. Entry shortages are likely to result in the cancellation of races or even the whole event.
If you do nothing to stop this it will just be another step along the line to the ending of the TT.
If you care about the TT it's time to protest to the ACU. Write to them, email them, post on their forum www.acu.org.uk
